Growing up in a family construction business the importance of having good people was crucial. Great companies are built by great people. I believe that technology and equipment cannot replace human impact. Decisions we make on a daily basis affect safety, quality and production.
Ajax is an industry leader because we have the best people. When we find success, it is because everyone did their job well. We had a great bid, we had a great plan and we had a great execution. The simple fact is that companies with the best employees win and winners want to play with other winners!
When a customer requests a crew by name or only gets a bid from us it truly makes me proud. I make it a point to let the crews know that they are helping us secure projects. Our reputation gets us a lot of work, typically profitable work. Remember although our current reputation is excellent it is up to us to uphold it.
The continuous improvement program at Ajax is one way we can ensure future success. Our market is very competitive and training our people gives us an advantage. I feel fortunate to work for a company that is so focused on developing their employees. An indicator that a company is doing extremely well is investing in the future, Ajax is definitely doing that.
I personally struggle with change and critcism. When selected to be a part of the leadership training program my initial thought was executive management felt my leadership skills were deficient. After being in the program for 3 months, I realize my initial feelings couldn't have been further from the truth. Self-improvement will not only strengthen your career but it will give you a better quality of life. Change is absolutely essential for improvement. I encourage anyone that gets a training opportunity to keep an open mind and work hard to maximize the return.
Lastly, I would like to express gratitude to all my co-workers throughout the company, we have one hell of a team! Also, special thank you to our field staff, you are on the frontlines everyday getting it done and you are the backbone of this company.
